Vita Vinea is a family-owned wine cellar with a two hectares vineyard run by two brothers, Temuri and Daviti Dakishvili, the youngest winemakers in Georgia. Temuri has just returned from studying winemaking at the University of Heilbronn in Germany. This family-owned wine cellar contains small Qvevri or clay amphora where the wine is aged according to the ancient traditions of Georgia. Wines are fermented without additives and filtration in these qvevri or in oak barrels. Each fermenting process gives the wine a distinctive flavor. The winery produces a very limited quantity of selected wines which are fermented and matured in the traditional Georgian style that goes back 8000 years. Located in the village Shalauri, next to the town of Telavi in eastern Georgia, VitaVinea’s small cellar offers visitors a chance to see how wine is being made using both ancient and modern Georgian technology during tours of the cellar. At harvest time in late September, tourists have an opportunity to participate in wine making process as well as making their own wine. These young wines from the September harvest are often served for Christmas celebrations in Georgia. Wine, made by visitors to our winery, can be sent by the staff of Vita Vinea by DHL directly to their homes in Europe or the United States for the Christmas time or other holidays. The Vita Vinea wines have character and harmony, full body, a rich and pleasant aroma, with a long lasting fruity taste. The wine embodies energy from the sun, soil, minerals, and the positive emotions of family traditions. Vita Vinea is open to the public by appointment only, and includes a winery tour a tasting of unique red and white Qvevri wines. In addition to the wine tour, visitors have the option of choosing to have a Georgian cheese plate, salad, shashlik for lunch or dinner after the tour. The price range for the tour and the optional lunch/dinner depends upon the number of people in the group.
